The Gazette van Detroit, America’s only Belgian newspaper, was founded in 1914 by a Flemish immigrant. It appeared headed for its demise until support poured in from the Belgian/Flemish expatriate communities, residents of Belgium and and the Flemish Media Ministry.

Did you know that Detroit had such a strong Belgian presence? It’s true and the only place left in the US where you can find feather bowling is at the Cadieux Cafe in Detroit, where you will also find steamed mussels and many Belgian beers.
