Rocker Jack White has concluded journalists are the “laziest people on earth” after years of reading false facts about his band The White Stripes. The Hotel Yorba star now refuses to believe anything he reads in the music press.

He says, “Journalists are inherently the laziest people on earth. Even in the age of Google, they don’t do any work to check what they’re writing about. I’d say 90 per cent of what they get is from the press release. We have fun putting things in there - like in the press release for (The White Stripes’ 2003 album) Elephant, somebody inserted a joke about how none of our studio equipment was made after 1963. Before you knew it, people thought we wouldn’t touch a piece of equipment unless it’s 60 years old or something. It gets to the point where you’re answering questions based on a joke somebody made.”

A Port Huron native hopes to bring the headquarters of an online marketing company to the city.

The company would employ 10 people at first, and if things go well, hire 20 or 40 people in the future, said Mark Roberts, who now lives in Santa Monica, Calif.

Roberts and his business partner, Jennifer Mathe of Irvine, Calif., are in Port Huron this week meeting with potential investors for their firm. They formed Leverage Inc. two years ago and have been working with money raised from friends and family, Roberts said.

DETROIT — A specialty grocer that emphasizes Michigan-made and gourmet food aims to set up a 4,500-square-foot store in a new loft project on Woodward in Midtown.

Traverse City-based Northpointe Food Ventures, operators of Zaccaro’s Market in Charlevoix, is in negotiations to set up shop in the Crystal Lofts, a former ballroom on the corner of Woodward and Watson Street in Brush Park.

The deal should be sealed in a few weeks, if not sooner, according to the loft’s developer and the food retailer. The Detroit store will also be called Zaccaro’s Market.

The Crystal Lofts include 13 lofts and three penthouse units ranging from $185,000 to $400,000, Belyue said. The target opening date is in mid-October. Five units have been sold.

Belyue is a prominent Detroit developer whose projects included the @water (pronounced at water), a $196-million development on the Detroit riverfront.

He intends to restore the entire block of buildings next to the Crystal Lofts.

A Spanish aerospace company is considering opening an operation in Ann Arbor Township that could employ more than 400 engineers, Business Review confirmed this afternoon.
Aeronova S.L., a commercial air transport firm, has contacted Ann Arbor SPARK about possibly opening a facility here, Ann Arbor Township Supervisor Michael Moran said Friday afternoon.

Wayne State University will host its E2Detroit 2007 entrepreneurship symposium on Oct. 1-2.

The two-day event will feature keynote speakers, panel discussions and workshops for business owners, students and entrepreneurs looking to start companies. Former Detroit Mayor Dennis Archer, Kim Lavine of Green Daisy Inc., Florine Mark of the Weight Watcher Group Inc. and Dan Mulhern of the Office of the Governor are among the people scheduled to speak at the conference.
