We previously mentioned that Google started offering 360° street views of Detroit. Upon further inspection it appears that most of the city of Detroit proper has not been included in lieu of much of western Wayne County and southern Oakland County. But all of the most urban walkable neighborhoods in Metro Detroit like Royal Oak, Birmingham, Ann Arbor, etc. had also been neglected. Only the visually worst, unpopular, and useless streets are covered by Google. As I’m sure any cartographer knows there is more to map making than just randomly driving around for a while and stopping halfway.

The really good, walkable walks in and around Ann Arbor are those streets and paths where the Google truck can’t go because the path does not allow motorized vehicles.
Ed, that’s a valid point. It would apply to every city that Google Street View covers. I don’t expect to see the Dequindre Cut in Detroit anytime soon.
