Ann Arbor software company acquires financing

An Ann Arbor software developer is moving forward with plans to grow after acquiring $1.5 million in new financing.

Janeeva Inc., which develops and manages Web applications to improve outsourcing relationship management, recently got financing in a joint agreement with Ann Arbor-based Plymouth Venture Partners and Holland-based Grand Angels.

As Sam Valenti III recently editorialized, sometimes what Southeast Michigan’s businesses need is easier access to funding, the kind that Silicon Valley or Boston firms can readily acquire. This Ann Arbor software company shows that the businesses do exist to make use of funds if they were only more available. If only there were a way to tap the great sums of money in the region for investing in regional businesses, businesses that are truly national or global which bring money in to the region from outside.

A FEW MINUTES WITH: An Italian teenager who digs Detroit

Q: How do you feel about Detroit?

A: They said that Detroit is like a city that hasn’t got nothing. Because it’s all based on the car industry. And it’s like, “They steal a lot.” … I’ve been to Greenfield Village, to the Ford museum and then to the Rouge, and I’ve seen stuff that I would never be able to see in Italy. And then downtown was really nice.

The things people say about Detroit, the things Detroiters say about Detroit are just horrible. How many people who would have otherwise had a great time visiting the city decided not to because of something somebody said that misled them? How much could Michigan’s tourism industry reap if only Detroiters would “say nice things about Detroit”?

SEMCOG working with railroads to establish Detroit-Ann Arbor …

…to establish the much anticipated commuter rail line that will connect Detroit, Ann Arbor and Metro Airport.

SEMCOG is working with the three freight railroads (Norfolk Southern, Conrail Shared Assets and Canadian National) that own the tracks between Ann Arbor and Detroit. They are negotiating the costs and conditions of putting passenger trains on freight tracks, identifying when the tracks are needed for freight purposes, when to run passenger service and working out conflicts and associated costs.

Ann Arbor’s Lower Town project to break ground in late September

The Northside Grill can expect even more customers queuing up on its sidewalks now that the nearby Lower Town mega development, also called Broadway Village, is set to break ground by late September.

Finally? It seemed as though the city council’s anti-development tactics had almost worked to completely prevent this one from happening and with the way the real estate market has been slowing down it was almost too late. Hopefully it isn’t and 24 months from the September Lower Town will be hopping.
