I discovered a new sneaker boutique in Royal Oak called Burn Rubber. It’s the same kind of shoe store as Bob’s Classic Kicks in Midtown Detroit which I think was the first of its kind in the Detroit area as well as the first within a few hours drive West of Toronto (not to mention New York where this trend is huge). Bob’s Classic Kicks is on 4717 Woodward Avenue at Forest next to the Detroit Artists Market, right by Wayne State University. From Wayne State’s South End Newspaper:
Jason Johnson and his father own and operate Detroit’s first and only sneaker boutique, selling high-end Nike, Adidas, Reebok, Gola Medium and Converse. According to Johnson, the store’s clientele is about 80 percent Wayne State students.
Bob’s Classic Kicks is also leading the way in supporting local artists by carrying custom shoes designed here in Detroit. They have about 10 to 12 shoe designs available at a time and change things up every month.
I haven’t been able to find a web site for Bob’s Classic Kicks but Burn Rubber has one. As I said they also feature the limited edition/limited run sneakers although their store is a bit smaller than Bob’s. But they do have video games.
Here’s an example of what they sell (this is what they just received):
- Dunk Low CL (birch / white / tweed)
- Air Max 1 (white / wheat / neutral grey / mdm grey)
- Dunk Low Premium “Jordan Retro 9 IX” (white / white / black)
- Women Dunk Low (white / tweed / bronzed olive)
- Women Dunk Low (pinenut / light pumice / white)
- Air Max 1 Premium “Polka Square” (white / white / obsidian / neutral grey)
- Air Max 90 360 (neutral grey / mdm grey / light lava)
- Air Stab “Polka Square” (white / white / voltage yellow / black)
- Air Max 90 Premium + Plus “Polka Square” (white / neutral grey / black / azure)
But if you want those shoes pictured above you’re going to have to figure out how to get them custom ordered yourself.
i think it’s awesome there are sneaker boutique’s out there that support young artists who make their own custom kicks– it’s really becoming an art form. some of these designs are ill y’all, and who better to support than youth. i also like that Nike designer Kenzo Minami is doing the same with his attachment to the DJ/Sneaker battle competition. he’s gonna guest judge, along with Dice Raw from the Roots, Truck North, and others. pretty sweet. I work with Toyota, so just spreading the good word.
someone should tell these guys at Burn Rubber to have their guys submit their best works, that’s be sweet right?
