Windsor is growing

05.16.07 | technician | In windsor

A publication called fDi (shorthand for “foreign direct investment”), produced bimonthly by the Financial Times of London, recently released its biannual “Cities of the Future: North America” report. The publication invites cities in the U.S., Canada and Mexico to compete. Each is judged on economic potential, cost-effectiveness, human resources, quality of life, infrastructure, business-friendliness, and foreign investment promotion.

The number one city in the category of small cities (less than 500,000 population)? Windsor, Ontario. We already knew that the city was poised to grow the fastest among Canadian cities, to about the current size of Detroit (city) today. Things are looking good across the border. Although today many Windsorites commute across the border into the Detroit area for jobs (the paperwork can be done in just minutes at the border if you have a job) I guess with such population growth they are planning on a lot of growth in jobs as well and we may then see an equal amount of commuter traffic going to Canada from the US side. Let’s hope that by the time this happens we are no longer at “war on terror” and restrictions on cross-border traffic will have eased. Either that or more Americans will have passports.

This is from Crain’s Detroit.
